 West coast, entering India through the Arabian Sea. It was constructed in the mid-1900s to fulfil the dearth of seaports\n        on the country 2019s western water route. Before the partition of India and Pakistan, at the peak of British\n        colonization in the mid 19th century, the Kandla port was of great importance alongside the Karachi port but post the\n        partition, the Karachi port became a part of Pakistan in its entirety. This initiated the infrastructural development of\n        the Kandla port to modernize it in order to reduce pressure on the Mumbai port that was sardined as a result of the\n        partition.In the early 1950s, the Kandla port was officially inaugurated under the directive of then Prime Minister, Shri\n        Jawaharlal Nehru. Almost a decade later, the Kandla Port Trust was established to ensure a smooth functioning and\n        management of the seaport on a daily basis.
