North European feeder operators face the threat of ocean line expansion.

Owing to the Russian invasion into Ukraine, the conflict has reduced transhipment demand, and the growing threat of ocean carrier customers operating their own services has exacerbated the situation. According to a recent Alphaliner survey, MSC remains the dominant intra-European carrier market player, with a one-third share, while CMA CGM experienced the greatest capacity growth in the year to February. The war in Ukraine, on the other hand, has reduced service capacity by 1.2%. Regardless, both carriers increased their capacity during the time period. Alphaliner also noted that Unifeeder had rationalized its North Europe services to the Baltic region, off-hiring five ships ranging in size from 1,100 to 1,600 teu ships deployed on its network.
