Suid Cargo: South Africa’s New Airline to Fill Critical Cargo Gap in Market

South Africa’s first cargo airline, Suid Cargo, was announced at the Air Cargo Africa conference in Johannesburg. The carrier plans to start flying in the second quarter of 2022 using a leased Astral Aviation 727-200. Suid aims to be an African feeder carrier, initially serving 20 destinations in southern, western, and eastern Africa. The airline plans to offer services with an Embraer E190 freighter, which will be delivered in 2025, and may consider an A320F or 737-800F next year. It will also charter Astral aircraft such as 747-400F, 767F, and 757F. Suid has an AOC and plans to develop sea-air services from Durban and Cape Town to promote South African exports as well as transit shipments throughout Africa.
