Samskip and Cochin Shipyards will construct zero-emission container ships.

Samskip, a Norwegian shipping company, has hired Indian shipbuilder Cochin Shipyard to design and construct two zero-emission feeder container vessels, with an option for two more. The ships will be among the first of their kind, powered by hydrogen fuel cells and sooner or later switching to green hydrogen. They are intended to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly shipping options in the European market, and each will carry approximately 365 high cube containers. The project is part of Norway’s green funding plan to achieve emission-free transportation, with vessel deliveries set to begin in Q3 2025.
